The date of creation of institute concerns to 1960, when the Kharkov laboratory of all-union Central Research Institute of Complex Automation (Moscow) was organized. Its goals were development and approbation of the experimental control computer for management of straight-flow, 50 MW unit 2 of Kharkov fossil-fuel power plant. Control computer on the control system of the 200 MW unit of Zmiev fossil-fuel power plant was created and introdused in 1964-65 on the basis of the gained experience. On this installation for the first time in domestic practice the process control system of thermal power plant power unit was tested with the help of multifunctional and fully-variable control computer.
Due the received experience development and duplicating of a process control systems with use of information and managing computing systems was begin on two 300 MW units of Zmiev fossil-fuel power plant (1969-73), three 800 MW units of Zaporozhye hydroelectric power plant (1976-79), two 100 MW gas-turbine units of Krasnodar heat-electric generating plant (1971-72) and other thermal power plants power units.
In 1982 Kharkov branch team of Central Research Institute of Complex Automation together with other organizations began to work on creation of process control system for the head 1000 MW power unit with water-moderated reactor of Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which was introduced into industrial operation in 1984 and replicated for 16 similar power units in Ukraine (8), Russia (6) and Bulgaria (2).
There was 01.01.1992 when the Kharkov research institute of complex automation was formed on the basis of the existing team.
To the present time Kharkov research institute of complex automation (former Kharkov department of Central Research Institute of Complex Automation) has developed and introduced more than 50 information and managing computing systems in structure of a process control systems for 200, 300 and 800 MW thermal power plants and 440 and 1000 MW water-moderated reactor nuclear power plants power units, on power plants of Ukraine, Russia, China, Bulgaria (see appendix).
The institute has the highly skilled scientific and technical staff having long-term experience of creation and introduction of developed systems. The results of research works are covered in the reports on various international, union and republican forums, and numerous publications.
The personnel of the institute has published more than 600 scientific works, a number of the workers is awarded with governmental awards and medals.
Due to works of institute the new scientific and technical direction on development and introduction of a process control system with use of computer facilities is created.
The works of institute are carried out on two main directions:

Development and practical mastering of new scientific principles and engineering methods of creation information and management systems in structure of a process control system;

Creation together with organizations of other ministries and departments, and with a foreign partners leading information and management systems in structure of a process control systems for thermal and nuclear power plants power units as well as development and commissioning of the In-core Monitoring System for NPP power generating units with 1000 MW water-moderated reactor.
Further perfection and development of a process control systems for thermal and nuclear power plants are carried out on the following basic directions:

Increase of its intellectual level by use of formalized ways of making optimum (or close to them) decisions on electrical equipment management in various operational modes;

More complete use of potential opportunities of modern computer facilities on a process control systems for expansion of structure and volume of its functions;

Creation of conditions for optimum interaction in a process control system human-machine systems;
-
Constant perfection, unification and standardization technical resources and software of a process control systems;

Increase of reliability and efficiency of functioning, as separate functions, and a process control system as a whole.
On the basis of these rules Kharkov research institute of complex automation, together with other organizations, firms and enterprises, which group was performed for many years of joint works for domestic and foreign thermal and nuclear power plants, carries out:

Development and introduction of the top unit level of a process control system (informational computing system) on Khmelnitskiy and Rovno nuclear power plants units that are under construction.

Step-by-step reconstruction of informational computing system for nuclear power plants water-moderated 1000 MW units in Ukraine and Russia.

Development and commissioning of the In-core Monitoring System for Rovno NPP power generating unit ¹4.

Reconstruction and development of informational computing system and process control system for thermal power plants.

Development and introduction of the top level of a process control systems for thermal and nuclear power plants.

Development and introduction of support functions for the operator of power unit, diagnostics of steam equipment and direct digital management.
Modern laboratory-ground base and also available unique ranges of support of the introduced systems in the Kharkov research institute of complex automation allow carrying out development, adjustment and approbation of developed systems before their installation.
According to the marked above directions the institute offers the participation in performance of the following works on thermal and nuclear power plants:

Inspection of objects, designing and development of a process control system for new builded and modernized power units;

Performance of design works on reconstruction, perfection and introduction informational support and software of a process control systems, taking place in operation;

Replicating of the developed systems as a whole and their separate parts;

Development of the necessary operational documentation for informational support, software and technical equipment of a process control systems;

Preparation of the personnel for operation information and managing systems in structure of a process control systems;
-
The methodical and advisory help at creation of a process control systems in energetic.
The creation and introduction of developed systems are carried out together with domestic organizations: with the developer of management technical equipment «SNPO «Impuls», design institutes (Harkovenergoproekt, Kievenergoproekt), technological organizations (Uzhtehenergo, Dontehenergo).
